I'm curently assigned to a training design project for a government agency. Due to the fources of globalization the nature of work changes and more focus is need on topics that used to be unimportant (think of safety/ terrorism/ environmental issues). The challenge is to find a way in our design to invite learners to think about the issues involved and gradually change their mind to the more globally important subjects. One of the things I was thinking about to imlement is the use of del.icio.us in a training assignment. During the training period, learners have to look out for any related topics on news sites/ blogs/ etc. and post these to del.icio.us with a special tag so other learner can also look what their colleagues have found. Just during their normal lives leaners have to be aware of what is happening thats related to their jobs and hopefully their will also evolve some kind of social learning proces through the interaction with other learners from the same training.

This week I was scared to death when I was trying to reach my blog for another post. ... It was blank!!!

The scary thing was that other MSN spaces were available and mine could not be found.

 

This is one of the issues I was warned about from my colleagues from the beginning we started talking about using free web services for educational purposes. What if...

I'm still fascinated by the little video's on YouTube. For the past couple of days there's risen a major discussion about a girl who calls herself "lonely girl 15" (LG15). This girl made videos of her life like she was writing in her own peronal diary. All the personal things people used to trust to their locked diaries, this girl put on the web. She even had several arguments (FIGHTS) with her boyfriend trough those videos she posted on YouTube. She immediately caught my attention and I was stunned about all this. Until recently the news came out that all these films were produced by a film company and lonlygirl15 appeared to be an actrice! See the interview on a post by Ben Werdmuller.

 

This uncoverage is a dissapointement for many YouTubers but in my opion this project showed us once again the power of the posibilities of the internet. Amazing to see how the YouTube community got engaged with the life of LG15 and how these people actually influenced the story. Engegement and interaction, isn't that what we would like to see in education. Are their posibilties to also use the power of these community forming tools in education?
